Geocaching
Geocaching is a great way to learn to use a GPS and you'll want to include a regular compass for instant gratification.
Here's what we're talking
about:

Geocaching started May 3rd, 2000 when Dave Ulmer hid a container near Beaver Creek, Oregon, outside Portland, Oregon. Today there are an estimated 689,335 caches worldwide. In fact the first cache I found was less than a quarter mile from my house.

These are my current stats!
My caching handle is
teledaveaustin. You have to log in to see my profile but it's free. To get
started the only real cost is your GPS.
If you're a new or pending cacher in the Austin area you might also want to check out the Central Texas Geocachers Yahoo group.
Get off the couch, life is not a spectator sport!
